The NRA, a national organization posing as a non-profit 501(c) has spent decades telling people that they are the only thing keeping the American people from a police state. The CEO Wayne LaPierre said as much just before the election. They tell you to join up because “they” (meaning unpatriotic liberals) want to take your guns away.
Like Grover Norquist and his tax pledge, these non-elected people grade our politicians based on their own criteria, tell their members whom to vote for, and spend millions of dollars attacking people who don’t. If a politician is a friend of the 99%, but thinks Bushmaster rifles with 30 round clips should not be sold in Wal-Mart… BAM… they don’t have a chance in NRA heavy states, even if they would help the working and poor people of the state.
The group ALEC, which has been a target of Occupy since the outset, works with the NRA to pass laws such as the one in Florida that Treyvon Martin’s killer hides behind.
ALEC’s public-private Criminal Justice Task Force was co-chaired by Wal-Mart, the nation’s largest seller of guns and ammunition. ALEC’s staffer for the task force was Chris Oswald a former “State Liaison” for the NRA.
The NRA, in reality, is an exclusive Chamber of Commerce devoted specifically for the gun and ammo industry, and their CEO doesn’t give a shit about your Right to Bear Arms. He cares about his 1 million dollar salary.
If anyone in Occupy doesn’t understand these facts, it’s time to learn about them, as the pressure the NRA will exert on our elected officials will be unprecedented in the next few months, despite any passionate press conference they stage in the next few days.
Long posts are rarely read on Facebook, but if anyone here wants to have a real conversation, let’s have it. If you the the NRA is any different than Wal-Mart, ALEC, Bank of America, JP Morgan, I think you should reflect on your assumptions.
ALEC, the NRA and Wal-Mart are different arms of the same beast.
This is ALL about the 99%.
